One of the most predominant traditions in East Asia is religion. The traditional religions or belief systems in East Asia are Confucianism, Taoism, Animism, Shinto, and Tibetan Buddhism. Folk religions area more important to most Chinese people than traditional religions. There are also many traditional languages in Chinese culture. Mandarin is the most common language throughout much of China and is deeply rooted in tradition. Much of the tradition lies in the dialects of Mandarin. There area a significant number of dialects including fifty-three from the ethnic minorities spread throughout China. Feng Shui is a belief that physical placement of objects can improve the flow of cosmic energy. It is practiced widely throughout much of East Asia. Feng Shui is seen in everyday situations. Such situations include ways of sitting, architecture, landscaping, and furniture placement. Many world religions have been influenced by Feng Shui. Some of the symbolism and motifs associated with Feng Shui can be seen in many world religions.
The central government in China, South Korea, and Japan all have powerful central governments that often intervene into the economic markets of their countries. China has a Communist government but has allowed for some free market capitalism, especially in Hong Kong. The Chinese government reserves the right to intervene in any corporate activities in China. Japan and South Korea have less state involvement in corporate proceedings, however, it is not uncommon for the government to try to correct inconsistencies that may occur in their markets.
